Seven Physiotherapy Myths Worth Retiring
1 February 2026 · 6 min read · Reviewed by Dr. Atharva Narvekar (PT)
Myth one: physiotherapy is only for after surgery. In reality, it often prevents the need for surgery altogether.
Myth two: treatment must hurt to work. Effective rehabilitation is usually tolerable and progressive.
Myth three: rest is best. Prolonged rest de-conditions tissue; relative rest with graded loading recovers faster.
Myth four: cracking your knuckles causes arthritis — it does not. Myth five: a scan explains your pain — often it does not. Myth six: strong core means endless crunches — endurance and control matter more. Myth seven: age means inevitable decline — strength is trainable at every age.
